Disaster Recovery Plan

Disaster Recovery Plan

The main objective of any disaster recovery plan (DRP) is to minimize downtime and data loss and allow business continuity whatever the situation.  The plan should consist of a comprehensive statement of consistent actions to put in to operation both during and after a disaster. Also known as a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), they are generally associated with the recovery of information technology data, assets, and facilities.

If your business doesn't have a disaster recovery plan, you should ask yourself:

'What would happen to my business, if I lost everything?'

Alongside a disaster recovery plan should come business continuity planning (or business continuity and resiliency planning).  This is the process of creating systems of prevention and recovery to deal with potential threats to a company.

There are many information guides, structured plans and free downloads available on the internet to help you create a Disaster Recovery Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan for your business.

As the world of business becomes more reliant on computer systems and information & communications technology (ICT), the importance of having a Disaster Recovery Plan becomes increasingly important.
